Under their Custody is a video installation in 5 channels, based on protocols from the legal process of appointing and supervising guardians for adults.
Five different cases of applicants that are on the border between functioning and not functioning take us deep into an unvoiced experience that reflects a repressed aspect of society’s collective unconscious.
Through the perspective of the different cases, I bring up questions about personal independence and the balance of powers it entails.
The scenario of Under Their Custody is based on real texts that were collected at different stages of
the legal process throughout the litigation leading to the decision whether the adult in question is able
to be independent and responsible for himself/herself or to take responsibility for another person.
The scenes are impersonated by actors that stick word by word to the characters’ original texts.
